The Joy of Farm Life and Welcoming New Puppies

Owning a farm is a unique and fulfilling experience that combines the beauty of nature with the charm of rural living. One of the most rewarding aspects of farm life is the ability to raise animals, particularly puppies, and witness the joy they bring to both humans and the environment around them.

Farms are vibrant ecosystems bustling with life. From the crowing of roosters at dawn to the gentle mooing of cows in the fields, every day begins with the harmonious symphony of nature. Here are some benefits and joys of living on a farm:

  • Connection to Nature: Being surrounded by acres of greenery and fresh air fosters a deep connection to the natural world.

  • Self-Sufficiency: Growing your own food and raising animals provides a sense of independence and sustainability.

  • Sense of Purpose: The daily routine of tending to crops and animals instills a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.

Raising Puppies on a Farm

Bringing puppies into the world on a farm is a heartwarming experience that enriches the lives of everyone involved.

The Process of Raising Puppies

  1. Preparation: Before the puppies arrive, it’s important to prepare a safe and comfortable space for them. This includes a warm, sheltered area with soft bedding and access to fresh water and food.

  2. Birth and Early Days: The arrival of puppies is a momentous occasion. Watching a mother dog care for her newborns is a beautiful testament to the nurturing instincts of animals. During this time, close observation is necessary to ensure the health and safety of the pups. We are with our puppies 100% of the time.  Including sleeping with them.... Just like having a newborn baby.

  3. Socialization: As the puppies grow, socialization becomes key. Farm environments offer a diverse range of stimuli and experiences that help puppies adapt to different sights, sounds, and smells.

The Joy Puppies Bring

  • Companionship: Puppies are known for their playful and affectionate nature. They quickly become beloved companions to their human caretakers.

  • Therapeutic Benefits: Interacting with puppies can reduce stress and anxiety, promoting overall well-being.

Sharing the Joy with Others

The joy of raising puppies on a farm extends beyond the immediate family. It creates opportunities to share this happiness with others:

  • Adoption: Finding loving homes for the puppies brings joy to new owners and helps spread the love far and wide.

Having a farm and raising puppies is a rewarding endeavor that brings immense joy to all who experience it. The love and care given to these animals reverberate through the farm, creating a warm and welcoming environment filled with new life and happiness. We have greatly enjoyed new life and sharing that gift of love with all of our puppy families.

The first three weeks of a puppy’s life are critical for their development. During this time, puppies are quite helpless, as their eyes remain closed until around 10 days old, and they begin to see around the two-week mark. Mama dog takes care of most needs, but our role is to ensure they stay warm, safe, and clean. It's essential to gently handle and stroke the puppies at least twice a day, helping them learn that human touch is a comforting and positive experience.
Early Neurological Stimulation

In addition, some breeders include the Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises, which are conducted once daily from the third to the 16th days, a period believed to be a time of rapid neurological growth and development. Even though puppies are very immature during this time frame, they are sensitive and respond to ENS.

ENS requires handling the puppies one at a time while performing a series of five exercises. Listed in order of preference, the handler starts with one pup and stimulates it using each of the five exercises. The handler completes the series from beginning to end before starting with the next pup. The handling of each pup once per day involves the following exercises:

Tactile stimulation – Holding the pup in one hand, the handler gently stimulates (tickles) the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the pup is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 – 5 seconds.

At Wilson Acres we  practice the above hands on training and socialization with every puppy we birth on the farm.

We usually have one litter per Dam per year; at a maximum.  We like to give our Mastiffs a breeding schedule of every other "window".

It helps ensure that their bodies have healed and they have gained back adequate weight to sustain another pregnancy.  They are bred from ages 2 up and through their 7th year.

After that we DO NOT sell our mothers.  They are part of the family and will retire here.

If our puppies are all spoken for this time around and you are interested in a puppy in the future from our next litter; please send a message below with your name, number and I will contact you with further information.
